You may or may not be familiar with the work of Bryzone, or the entity that is Soulvent Records. However, having made quite an impact with their first release, the London-based Soulvent camp return with this exquisite salute to the evergreen sound that is liquid drum and bass. Bryzone is a fresh face on the scene; an exciting young producer who comes in with a refreshing yet classic take on the soulful side of our music. He drops two tracks on the label on March 30th, and has also made this exclusive minimix for us.

The A side, ‘Trial Run’, features the vocal exploits of Jenny Mayhem. There seems to be a lot of liquid drum and bass with a female vocal carelessly stuck in it these days, but this track is an example of how this style should be executed. 10 seconds into this track and you are instantly transported to summer, with Jenny’s soulful and beautifully delivered vocals complementing the melody perfectly. This, accompanied by the soft piano chords and bright percussion, encapsulate everything there is to love about this style of drum and bass.

On the flip is ‘Stargaze’. If the A side was a ‘summers day’, then this would be a ‘summers night’. Straight away it entices you and sets the mood with its gentle harmonics and smooth pads. What grabs me about this track is the contrast with the A side. The intricate melodies combine really well with both the offbeat drums and warm bass; simple yet effective.

Here we have another strong offering from Soulvent; two stellar pieces of soulful D&B that should definitely feature on any summer playlist. .
