It is always exciting to look back at an artist’s musical journey and see how their tastes, talents, and art has transformed and developed throughout the years; especially an artist as gifted as Diplo. Ten years ago, Diplo first gained notoriety with the release of his album Florida. The diverse, trip-hop inspired sounds on the album, which were made in between his Philadelphian apartment and his mother’s Florida home, epitomize the first 23 years of his life, Diplo mentioned to Rolling Stone.
“I was working late nights and taking a bus through the city every night, smoking weed, putting on headphones and just making things I never heard before and could just imagine. Making this record created an entirely new world for me.”
A decade later, Diplo is reissuing Florida on the original label Big Dada, complete with the Epistemology Suite EP as well as five unreleased tracks.
While the entire Florida reissue will drop this Black Friday, one unreleased track As I Lay Dying finally made its way online to be heard by music lovers everywhere. Below check out Into the Sun, a track released back in 2004 on Florida, as well as the never-before-heard treasure As I Lay Dying to hear how Diplo‘s notorious sound has evolved.
