Up-and-coming Los Angeles-based techno producer Modus offers up a stripped down, tech house remix of  Late Night Alumni‘s latest release “The This This,” the first single off their forthcoming album Eclipse to be released on Kaskade‘s Arkade label sometime in May. Oh, and as they say “the best things in life are free,” so too is this download.

Modus rebuilds the entire song from the ground up, starting with a techy, syncopated beat as the background to the original track’s vocals, only to fade as Becky Jean Williams sings, “I think I love this.” As the chorus continues, warbling strings and a thick warm bassline emerge, complimenting the soft, cooing vocals. What Modus has created is the perfect track to transition to a late night festival set, striking the perfect balance between Becky’s light and airy vocals and the darker, more moody tech beat and bassline.

As an Insomniac Discovery Project winner, Modus is no stranger to festivals himself, having played EDC New York, back-to-back years at EDC Las Vegas, and he held a prior monthly residency at LA’s Sound Nightclub. Drawing influences from Dusky, Nicole Moudaber, Richie Hawtin and Adam Bayer, his productions blend bass, rhythmic depth and melodic contour as he continues to push the boundaries of sound and experimentation.
