Mystery producers are all the rage right now, and one of the latest to make some noise was HI-LO – a battery logo that came with a song called “Crank It Up” that has accrued support from Kaskade, Knife Party, Jack Ü, and more. The project had a future house tinge but gravitated more towards the tech-house side of the genre. We presumed it could have been Oliver Heldens, but we couldn’t be sure – until now.
The Dutch wunderkind has officially taken responsibility for the HI-LO project and additionally announced that he is starting his own record label, Heldeep Records. With his radio show Heldeep Radio already acting like a launching platform for promising talent, Heldeep Records will allow Oliver Heldens to have another outlet to showcase the artists he believe are in the next wave of international talent with a more substantial backing. In celebration of the two announcements, Oliver Heldens releases a new HI-LO single, “Renegade Mastah,” as the first record on his newborn imprint.
Basing itself on Wildchild’s 1995 classic, the re-imagination gives the ropes to the recognizable lyrics to guide listeners into the track’s rough nature while Heldens underlies a tumultuous pattern of banging percussion and warping bass lines that perfectly exemplify the phrase ‘organized chaos.’ “Renegade Mastah” will be released in full on July 20th via Heldeep Records.
