You might not know the name Maarten Vorwerk off the top of your head but if you consider yourself a fan of big room house music the odds are that you will have in fact heard a track he’s produced. Widely acknowledged as a ghost producer for DVBBS, Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike, Quintino, Danny Avila, and more, Vorwerk shared his thoughts on his role as a ghost producer, his own career, and more to Portuguese publication Wonderland In Rave.

While Vorwerk certainly has a track record of successfully producing music (judging by the Beatport Top 100 Charts at least), one might wonder just why he hasn’t been quicker to start a musical career under his own name. While other producers might do it for the money or the fame, Vorwerk is motivated fundamentally by his love of making music. “I love being in the studio and creating stuff. That is who I am and what I do. For me that’s the best way to present yourself… I don’t charge as much as some of the Top DJs are getting for a gig.”

Love of music isn’t the only thing that inspires Vorwerk however. “I try to inspire myself all the time. I love the power and the emotion music can give to people. And I love the challenge to try and prove that all the time.”

On the topic of the DJ Mag Top 100 Rankings Vorwerk pointed out what a lot of people have been saying for some time now.

“I like the DJ Mag. But honestly it has nothing to do with the technical skill of being a DJ. It’s just a popularity contest. That’s why I figured I might as well compete for it. The one with the biggest marketing skills / budget will win, so don’t forget to vote for me.”
