Kanye West made waves with his video for “Famous,” depicting various celebrities in states of undress as the camera panned over them all nude in a bed. The video was meant to be an artful look at how society lays celebrities bare and wants to scrutinize them in every possible way, and it was based on the 2008 painting Sleep, by Vincent Desiderio. However, many (predictably) found the video offensive and needlessly provocative.
Now, with the help of various other celebrities, BBC Radio 1 has fashioned a Safe-For-Work (SFW) version of the video featuring Troye Sivan, Nick Jonas, Meghan Trainor, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Craig David, Cheryl, Ant & Dec and 5 Seconds of Summer. This video is exceptionally less provocative, and almost innocent in its execution. No mention is made of Kanye West or his video except in the title of the video uploaded to YouTube. Regardless, it’s clear that BBC wanted to put their own spin on things.
