In our recent interview with Dillon Francis, he remarked that a debut album is something of a benchmark for an artist in their creative history – it marks a certain point in an artist’s career, an evolution of their sound and usually a major turning point. There’s a lot that goes into the creation of a debut album besides just the musical aspect including marketing, promotion, and a lot of good timing.

For now, The Chainsmokers are holding off on taking that leap just yet. In an interview with Teen Vogue, they were asked about a debut album (again) and responded:

We get asked that all the time, but who is to say there is a debut album coming? [Laughs] The album will come when we feel like there is a demand for it. We are [still] thinking about what a Chainsmokers album would sound like. For us, dance albums suck; they are more compilations more than anything. We want our album to reflect a moment in time for us, to tell a story. We think we are getting there, so we will see…

Though if they did have a debut album coming out, Drew says it would be titled something like “Bad Memories: Do Not Open.” Not a bad title, all things considered…

So while a debut album might still be a ways off, there’s still plenty of new Chainsmokers to wait for. Check out a couple of their new IDs from Red Rocks, and there’s still that Matoma ID that we need, as well.
