As part of his performance at the first-ever ComplexCon next month, Skrillex gave an exclusive interview to Complex with some really juicy information. This isn’t the first time that Skrillex has spoken with Complex, appearing in a massive cover story back in 2014, but it’s definitely one of his more revealing interviews, in terms of just pure information that he gave out.

Earlier this year, Skrillex dropped one of the biggest tracks of the year with Rick Ross, “Purple Lamborghini.” Yes, tracks like “Jotaro” have become more ubiquitous within the actual bass music realm, but “Purple Lamborghini” is probably one of the only Skrillex tracks you’ll hear sitting in a Starbucks.

While the process of producing the track was probably not all that difficult, the process of creating the music video was decidedly more so.

“[They] wanted to do a music video using me and footage [of Suicide Squad]. I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to do one of those.’ So I called Jared personally, and I really had to persuade him [to join],” Skrillex told Complex. “He’s a really good friend of mine, but for him, giving me that Joker character is not an easy thing. He really went out of his way to be a part of that video. And getting Rick Ross in it—the timing was so last minute. Everything came together at the last minute. The director, the treatment, everything.”

Leto was also known during the filming as being completely in character, even if that meant mailing live rats to co-star Margot Robbie. This extended to the filming of the music video. During production, Leto gifted Skrillex with “the biggest dildo” he had ever seen “and a bunch of weird shit in a box.” Skrillex responded with a tepid “Thank you.”
