There’s an old sports cliché that hard work beats talent, but, you know what…more often than not it’s true. Just ask Fadil El Ghoul, you probably know him by his stage name, R3HAB. Over the years Fadil has risen to the top of the EDM game with massive hits such as “Samurai,” “Tiger,” “Karate,” and his festival ready remixes for such giants like Calvin Harris and Rihanna. Coming from the hotbed of electronic music that is the Netherlands, R3HAB has forged his own path, regardless of what anyone has had to say. Self-doubt can only hold one back as Fadil puts it.
“When I started to listen too much to other people’s opinions, it made me insecure about the direction to take, not only in my career, but also in other aspects of my personal life. At a certain point I just started to believe everyone and doubt myself. That is a very dangerous place to be in. I decided I had to become the best version of myself, do it my way, don’t listen to anyone else and just believe in my own abilities. I focus on what I can control.”
After all, since life is a series of events that we have no control over, why not focus on the things we can control to make our experience better and pursue our dreams? For Fadil, he knows the impact he can have as an international artist and he hopes to leave a positive imprint for the generation that is to come.
“I’m hoping to inspire kids to see that anything is possible, anything you set your mind to, you will achieve. When the day comes, and opportunity knocks on your door, make sure you are prepared. Preparation meets opportunity. If you are not ready, it will be a lot harder to reach your goals, so make sure you’re ready. I really hope the new generation will see that and work hard for everything. Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it, and this is how I approach every new song I create.”
If you’ve ever listened to R3HAB’s music it certainly makes you feel invincible, and that’s what Fadil is going for; he wants to inspire others through his music. Some may say that electronic music is hollow, artists like R3HAB are looking to prove otherwise.
