A movement has begun to allow drug testing — in fact, encourage drug testing — at music festivals across the UK. And Bestival just became the next huge event to get on board.
For many dance music lovers, Bestival is the the most anticipated weekend of festival season. The event takes place August 2nd – 5th, 2018 at Lulworth Estate in Dorset. This time around, revelers can have peace of mind when it comes to on-site drug testing.
Bestival’s official announcement states: “In the interests of public safety, Bestival has always strongly advised festival-goers to avoid taking any illegal substances. However, harm reduction and customer welfare are our priorities, so we are working with agencies to explore all public health options to ensure audience choice and safety.”
It’s true. No matter your stance on recreational drug use, it’s negligent to act like it isn’t going to happen. Bestival’s choice to support drug testing on its grounds is, in our opinion, the more responsible choice.
Other UK festivals including Boomtown, Secret Garden Party and Love Saves The Day have also introduced on-site drug testing. While many other music festivals have yet to jump on board, Bestival is a huge step in the right direction — toward harm reduction.
