I really, really love The Verge’s take on the story that ScarJo is now “in a band.” It’s quippy, intelligent, and most of all – funny. I wish I had come up with it myself first, but alas.
Apparently called “The Singles,” the group consists of “Este Haim of indie darlings Haim, singer-songwriter Holly Miranda, pop singer Julia Haltigan, and Kendra Morris, who was once a contestant on a Fuse TV talent competition.” This mish-mash of talent and pseudo-talent produced a track titled “Candy,” a sickeningly sweet pop track making use of the usual trappings of the genre. There’s catchy hooks and lyrics and a repetitive chord structure, but of course I don’t think anyone would expect anything more from this bunch. It’s good pop music.
I could never say it better than The Verge, though.
You may remember when Johansson released an album of Tom Waits covers. This is like that, in the sense that it’s also music.
