It’s tough to believe summer is already over and Halloween is right around the corner. The famed night of the occult has become another reason to celebrate, and with so many choices like HARD Day of the Dead, Something Wicked, Insomniac’s Escape, and Haunted Fest, we understand it’s difficult to pull the trigger on which party to attend, especially if you’re in the midwest. Fright no longer, Elektrik Prairie is the answer.
Held in Stillwater, OK, Elektrik Prairie is Oklahoma’s premiere college music & arts event. I know, you might be thinking, what’s in Oklahoma?! Why would anyone bother to throw an event there? You’d be right to ask, and that’s exactly why founder Justin Walmer created Elektrik Prairie: to share the beauty of the electronic scene where it didn’t exist.
Instead of shunning their Red Dirt roots, the Prairie embraces it all with open arms. The two-day party is located in a rodeo barn, outfitted with the most cunning equipment, and encourages a laid-back, midwest charm that you won’t find in Vegas’ hottest nightclub. For this year’s ‘Halloweekend,’ they’re taking the gloves off and going all out, just have a look at their insane lineup; and yes, that’s the Chingy you’re seeing. Friday is set as a Night of Carnage, which just happens to coincide with the release of Papi Gordo, making this one kick-ass release party. The Prairie will also feature performances by Party Favor, Leah Culver, Cazzette, and Peking Duk, in addition to a slew of local talent. Oh, and a two-day GA ticket is only $35… For a billing of this magnitude? Simply unheard of.
In one of our biggest interviews to date, Elektrik Prairie’s Justin Walmer opens up on how the event came to be, what makes the Prairie stand out from today’s massives, and how he’s showcasing the beauty of our scene.
