According to initial reports from The Hill, President Donald Trump’s administrative team is looking to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities programs in an effort to cut federal spending. Without these programs, artists and educators at various levels might not receive the government grants needed to pursue projects ranging from musical performances to music education in public schools.
Funding for these national endowments amount to a meager 0.004% of the $4 trillion budget, with both the NEA and NEH receiving $148 million in 2016. According to The Hill, Trump plans to funnel this money back towards the military.
In an effort to salvage music education in schools and the programs responsible for providing resources for educators and artists around the country, Consequence of Sound started a petition on the still-active We the People platform on the White House website.
