Yesterday, reddit brought to light Steve Aoki’s use of a cracked copy of Sylenth 1. Today, another post on reddit revealed that Headhunterz also uses a cracked software. In a video he posted about creating part of his track “From Within” the signature left by the crackers, Team Arcade, is clearly visible.
It is worth noting, however, that it is not necessarily illegal to own cracked software as long as you also bought a copy. Sometimes producers/DJs may download cracked software to see if they like it, then buy a copy but continue using the cracked version. Also, it is possible that producers and DJs like Headhunterz and Aoki bought the software but use cracked versions because they simply run better and smoother.
At any point in writing that last paragraph, did you have a straight face? As much as everyone does it, it is illegal to use cracked software to “decide if you want to buy it”, and cracked software never runs “better and smoother”. You think the crackers are going to fix bugs while they’re in there making registry modifications? Come on now.
Cracked versions never run better! Buy the real deal!
some aoki fan comments that cracked software runs better than a legal version and you make an article about it?
2nd paragraph is a bad attempt to deffend artists like this! new producers use cracked software because of the money but artist at this level of recignition c’mon buy it! besides… notHing*
Real version get updated as soon as there is a bug found, crack copies is a pain and a half to get updates… therefore they are using a crack version of the software, why? I don’t know how someone who makes so much money would have crack versions… they might even get it for free if they do some advertising for the company who makes it… c’mon guy be smart use the real deal…
Bullshit. Run better and smoother? You actually believe that crap?
I once heard that Cubase SX ran better cracked than using the Dongle, I never really used a legit version of Cubase though, when I finally grew up enough to decide to stop using cracked software I started using Logic anyway.. But yeah, unless of course the software requires some form of hardware anti piracy measure, usually in the form of a USB dongle (and I absolutely hate these methods, what a waste of a good USB port!) I’d always prefer using a licensed version, at least then you feel like you have the right to complain when the performance isn’t so smooth!
I can only assume that the 2nd paragraph is nothing more than an attempt to cover yourself from some sort of potential libel or slander accusations by these artists? Off up some BS excuses so you can say “well – we weren’t actually saying….”
Gotcha.
