Have you ever wanted to throw down in a museum? For Germans, this dream is about to become a reality. Local DJ/producer/club owner Andreas Tomalla is working with a team to build the first ever techno museum. The Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) is set to open inside Frankfurt’s Children’s Museum in 2017.
Tomalla has always been a trendsetter – in 1984 he started Technoclub, the first electronic music party in the South German city under the alias Talla 2XLC. MOMEM’s exhibits will be something for all the senses, using interactive exhibitions as one would hope in a musical museum. All aspects of the evolution of electronic music will be represented, from instruments and technology, to clothing, and more. But arguably the biggest selling point of MOMEM will be DJ workshops and regular live events.
Though MOMEM isn’t the first museum of its kind (that title belongs to Detroit’s EXHIBIT 3000), it does has potential to be the biggest, which is dependent upon how much support the self-funded museum gets.
