What else to say about this remix EP than wow. Dance music duo Oliver has made a significant impact with their four track Mechanical album, especially with their track “MYB“. What better way to extend the longevity of a release than to give it a remix package? While the “Night Is On My Mind” remix from Dillon Francis has be gathering its fair share of hype, all four tracks are equally impressive. To go one step further, this remix EP is diverse! Take note producers and labels- the Mechanical Remixes EP is the recipe to success.

Night Is On My Mind (Dillon Francis Remix)” is coined as “big-room-bahton”, joining together the room shaking effects with the 112 BPM flavor. Massive bass in each drop on this track, while well distorted electro stabs growl through the build up. Having the second drop be a continuation of the first was a great choice, as the bass synths climb up in timbre over and over.

The last time I wrote about Nom De Strip I complained about how generic his “Devil’s BBQ” track was, but I am happy to see his remix of “Control” is back to his usual creative side. The original track is kicked up a notch as Nom De Strip speeds up the disco electro fusion with a wicked drop over a bed of white noise.

The third of the four is by a new artist, Tchami. This artist has an affinity to Fool’s Gold, releasing a two track effort (one of which samples French Montana) on the label back in August. Tchami had big shoes to fill by remixing “MYB“, but pulled it off with flying colors. The best way to describe this one is imagine if the moody bass and pitched down vocals of deep house joined up with DJ Snake. When the track drops, there is one extra bar following the “MYB” vocals, a fresh touch.

Even newer to our scene is Values, who sends us back to the 1980’s with their remix of “Mechanical“. This one is more reminiscent of artists like Kavinsky, CHVRCHES, or Autre Ne Veut than the other artists featured on Mechanical Remixes. While this won’t be one you’ll hear at your next festival unfortunately, this is a beautiful journey through electronica. The bouncy basslines, jolly synths, and vocal manipulations are the perfect carefree way to bring this stellar EP to a close.

It is not often that I am so wholeheartedly positive about a collection of music, but I must say, hats off to the Mechanical Remixes EP. Find it here on Beatport.
