Before the days of dating Taylor Swift, headlining festivals and beating records set by Michael Jackson, Calvin Harris was a rising electronic/disco producer gaining steam in Europe. Harris’ initial popularity preceded the EDM boom of America, enough to earn an invite as a guest judge on the Simon Cowell-ran The X Factor reality competition in 2009. Harris used his appearance as a way to lampoon the show, interrupting Jedward‘s performance by running across the stage with a pineapple on his head.
Simon Cowell and The X Factor producers weren’t too happy, and subsequently banned Harris from the show altogether. Today, Harris reveals Cowell lifted his ban on the producer from appearing on the show, presumably due to his now-superstar status. Harris told Heat World last year that he and Cowell had been staying away from each other, but updated the magazine with the news that Cowell revoked his ban this year. Cowell’s been busy with own trouble, as Yahoo pulled the plug on his DJ reality show slated to debut in the coming months.
