Martin Garrix took home awards for Best Electronic Act and Best World Stage Performance at this year’s MTV EMAs, but unfortunately, The Chainsmokers aren’t so lucky. They’ll be going home empty-handed after having been nominated for Best New artist, despite breaking through three years ago with “#Selfie.”

It seems that even their massive claim to fame this year with “Closer” wasn’t enough to earn them the title, as the award went to Zara Larsson, whose song “Never Forget You” with MNEK was also a smash hit this year.

On another note, “Starboy” by Daft Punk & The Weeknd received the award for Best Video. They were up against powerhouses Beyoncé and Kanye West among others, but they still pulled through.
