If you want a smack in the face from some up and coming EDM talent, then look no further than the latest release from DJ and producer MAKJ. Mackenzie Johnson’s career has been gathering momentum since his appearance at IDfest back in 2011. Since then he has retreated from touring but only to hone his producing skills. Hakaka is surely a testament to his time spent honing and producing.
Hakaka opens with a bang and MAKJ immediately deploys one of it’s strengths, which is a runaway bassline that constantly drives the track forward. The breaks only provide a brief space of relaxation before the bassline kicks off again with MAKJ adding another exciting element to the production.
The track is exhilarating and a great effort from MAKJ, who has recently secured himself a residency at the XS Las Vegas. This meteoric and seamless rise of success seems to reflect little upon the tracks Polynesian title, which means Good Fight. Hopefully his success should remain plain sailing with plenty of tracks like this along the way.
