Koen Groeneveld‘s off-kilter, quirky brand of techno has always intrigued me. Koen‘s music is frequently permeated with unexpected samples, unconventional synth pads, and plenty of white noise, and new EP release Launched is no exception. The title track builds slowly to reveal updated Detroit techno in proper form; the melody has just the right amount of uneasy menace, while the percussion samples are funky and danceable. Stabilizer is more sonically minimal and progressive, largely foregoing melody in favor of atmosphere until the breakdown, where spacey synthesizers dominate. Check these out below, and head over to Beatport to pick them up for yourself!
