Afro House legends Black Motion have just dropped a remix of San Francisco duo Karmacoda’s track ‘Time’, out now via Sola Musa Music. Following a very well-received version by Prince Kaybee, the remix showcases the signature percussive mastery and rich Afro-house textures of Black Motion, comprised of founder Thabo Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma, whose accolades include multiple South African Music Awards, Gold- and Platinum-certified projects, and a celebrated NPR Tiny Desk performance.
The original ‘Time’ is taken off from Karmacoda’s 2022 Lessons In Time LP, blends soulful R&B, trip-hop, and jazz lounge influences with vocals by Jessica Ford, Brett Crockett, and Eric Matsuno, exploring themes of regret and introspection over a hypnotic mix of piano, shaker, and melody – elements that Black Motion transform into a compelling Afro House anthem.
With effortless finesse, Black Motion elevate the track into a dynamic Afro House anthem that will resonate with fans of Caiiro, Culoe De Song, Sun-El Musician, and Black Coffee. A driving, propulsive beat forms the backbone of the production, while a hypnotic arpeggio threads through intricate layers of rhythm and atmosphere. The vocals glide seamlessly across the mix, preserving the emotional intensity of the original while infusing it with a renewed sense of groove and momentum.
Black Motion shared: “The ‘Time’ remix was born from a conversation with the ancestors, a reminder that time is not just counted, it is felt in the drum and carried in the spirit. We approached it as a ritual in sound, where rhythm becomes memory and melody becomes prayer. It is our offering to the eternal pulse that guides us beyond the clock.”
