Back in 2012, when eyes were still blinded by highlighter tanks and excessive lasers, techno giants Richie Hawtin & Loco Dice were in classrooms on campuses down the East Coast Three years later, Hawtin is back for another round of CNTRL: Individuality & Creativity in Technology-Based Music. The tour, which features some of today’s most prominent underground DJs, is a masterclass designed to inspire future producers. While CNTRL: Beyond EDM three years ago hit 17 cities in 20 days (and was interrupted by Hurricane Sandy), this year hits just eight bigger markets across North America like Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and more.
CNTRL operates in two parts. Part One is a day of classes on campus like a large panel explaining the history of underground music, both independently and alongside other dance music genres. Also featured are some of today’s top brands like Pioneer, Funktion One, and Traktor showcasing the latest equipment that students can even purchase at a discounted rate. The second is an show that night at a nearby club, with a different combination of the tour’s artists in every city. This year, Hawtin will be joined by Dubfire, Victor Calderone, Chris Liebing, Grimes, and plenty more. Watch the 30-minute documentary below and find out if and when CNTRL is in a city near you:
