Kenny Glasgow of House/Techno duo Art Department announced that he’s be leaving the group after five years of DJ’ing. The Toronto duo comprised of Glasgow and Jonny White have been fixtures in the underground music since well before the group’s formation. Their first official release was a remix for Riz Mc’s “Don’t Sleep,” on Damian Lazarus’ label Crosstown Rebels, who signed them for their first album The Drawing Board shortly after. While they were a formidable production team, it was their live shows featuring vocals from Glasgow himself that really gained attention, even at their debut at Winter Music Conference back in 2010.
Even with such a presence in the underground scene, many dance music fans probably remember the name Art Department as the ones who harshly criticized Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, and Sander van Doorn after a video of them DJing at last year’s Mixmash Pool Party surfaced. Their Facebook rant claimed that the group were “Fake DJing,” just one accusation of many in the post.
While Glasgow stated that he will be leaving to produce under his own name again, White said that he will continue DJing under the Art Department name. No word yet on whether Glasgow will play any of their scheduled shows this summer.
