There are few artists in electronic music as singular and unique as L.A. based producer/composer/DJ Matt Lange. Noted for his “darkly melodic breed of electronic music rooted in raw energy and emotion,” Lange is not someone you regularly see on the festival circuit. Instead he’s constantly at work in the studio, effortlessly trying to perfect his sound. Recently signed to deadmau5’s label mau5trap, Lange recently released his Patchwork EP, a beautiful composition of dark, personal, opus-like nine minute tracks.
Although, Matt is firmly focused on perfecting his sound, that’s not to say he is not aware of the need for danceable club tracks in his DJ sets. Hence, the release of the “Ephemera: Remixes” pack. Featuring fresh new takes on his tracks from his EP prior to Patchwork, listeners are treated to remixes from the likes of Anthony Baldino and ATTLAS and hot drum & bass takes on Lange tracks from the likes of Calyx & Teebee and Mat Zo.
Like many artists, Matt always faces the struggle of being true to his artistic vision and making tracks that are more in line with what record labels want. Thankfully for us all, Matt has fully embraced an eff you mentality towards labels and he only seeks to make music that pleases him. Matt’s music is so authentic because there is not a commercial bone in his body, this allows him the freedom to create some of the most unique sounds around, this is fully evident on the Patchwork EP. If you’re lucky you might catch a Matt Lange set this summer. He’ll be making appearances at Moonrise Festival in Baltimore next month, and at Nocturnal Wonderland in Southern California for Labor Day Weekend. Check out the Ephemera Remixes below.
