Marshmello just passed 40 million YouTube subscribers, making him the third most-subscribed-to musician on YouTube, only behind Ed Sheeran (42.5M) and Justin Bieber (47M). He beat out Eminem (39.4M) to take the spot.
While his music was absolutely the catalyst for the major growth of his channel, it was the myriad other topics, like his How To videos, cooking shows, and gaming segments that kept his subscribers engaged and coming back for more.
Much of Marshmello’s video content tends to be geared toward a younger audience, a heretofore untapped market in the EDM realm. With an easily accessible brand, a positive influence on fans, and cheery music, it’s no wonder his popularity has skyrocketed as much as it has.
