Both Holly and Baauer are known for some of their eccentric productions, but having both of them on one track, together, is more than enough to break any mold. On their new collaboration, “Just Enough,” the first taste of Holly’s forthcoming debut mixtape on HARD Records, you get a taste of everything.
Earlier this year Holly’s work with Baauer saw him notch co-production credits on eight tracks featured on Baauer’s Planet’s Mad album. Now, Holly is taking the reins on “Just Enough,” a dark grimy slice of the restlessness of Holly’s production, jumping from tempo to tempo, shuffling between styles and sounds, never staying in one place for a second. It exemplifies the collision between old worlds and new, and the contradictions and polarising sentiments that underpin Holly’s mixtape.
“Just Enough” is the sort of song you might not absolutely love at first; but even if you don’t, you will be intrigued. And at that point, Holly and Baauer have you hooked. The more you listen, as I have, the deeper your appreciation grows and eventually you’ll be fully addicted. Check out their new collab below, out now on HARD Records.
