Switch Disco are known for their high-energy mashups and festival-ready house productions. Comprised of Dan Creasy and Nikos Kalogerias, they have built a prolific reputation on the global dance scene. The pair spent more than a decade honing their craft through prominent club residencies, and have released hits on renowned labels like Tomorrowland Music and Sony Music.
Their career took off during lockdown, as they amassed more than a million followers on TikTok alone as well as over half a billion streams. They’ve also collaborated with the likes of ALOK, Sam Feldt and R3HAB, while their single ‘Everything’ appeared on the infamous reality TV show Love Island. Additionally, their Platinum-selling, BRIT-nominated hit ‘REACT’ with Ella Henderson has recently hit over 200 million streams and counting!
In our interview with Switch Disco the pair discuss garnering 200 million streams on ‘REACT , their Tomorrowland Winter performance earlier this year and they drop an exclusive mix below! 
Where are you right now and how has your day or night been so far?
One of us is at home in the UK and the other is travelling back from Greece! We have both been taking time to see our families and friends, after a hectic summer. Our day has started with lots of tasks to do – as always!!
Congratulations on reaching 200 million Spotify streams on ‘REACT’ with Ella Henderson! What does this milestone mean to you both personally and creatively?
Thank you!! Honestly – we only realise NOW how huge ‘REACT’ was. It was only the second record we ever released, so we had no idea back then that only a very small percentage of songs every reach the numbers it did! It was a massive sense of achievement for us both, but also comes with a lot of pressure to try and replicate that success.
Collaboration seems like a cornerstone of yours. How do you navigate creative differences when producing and working with artists from different backgrounds?
Collaboration has always been an integral part of our artistry – particularly in our DJ sets, where we combine elements of tracks from different artists within dance music, to create our unique mashups and edits. This has then transferred into our music releases, where we have worked on projects with people including Sam Feldt, R3HAB, Glockenbach, Tones & I, Charlotte Haining, Autograf, ALOK and more. So far, we only have positive things to say about these collaborations, as we have always aligned our creative visions easily!
With the dance music scene in a constant state of flux, are there any trends right now that excite you the most, and which ones make you want to push back a bit?
The scene is changing daily – which can be overwhelming and frustrating at times, as we try and keep up with it / adapt to it – but what is exciting, is that global dance music is bigger than ever and exists in so many sub genres that also seem to be crossing into each others boundaries. Trends come and go, but we always try and stay true to ourselves in the music we put out and the social media posts we publish.
Platforms like TikTok have changed the way music reaches audiences. How do you balance creating music for clubs or festivals, versus creating music that could potentially thrive online?
We balance it by trying to create both! Edits that we designed specifically for TikTok, helped us grow an online audience, which in turn helped us get the opportunity to sign a record deal and release music for clubs / festivals and radio. When it comes to songwriting sessions, everyone in the room is aware that a record that has the potentially to go viral on social platforms, and what advantages that has, but we try not to let that dictate the outcome of the record too much. For example – ‘REACT’ didn’t have a viral moment, yet was our biggest release so far…
Can you tell us what’s been the most unexpected lesson you’ve learned from working together as a duo? This can be artistically or in a personal capacity
Great question. We have known each other for 15 years, so there haven’t been many unexpected lessons along the way. We know each others strengths and weaknesses, and how to utilise them effectively. We have had very heated discussions over the years, but they are born from how passionate we are about achieving our goals (plus we are both pretty stubborn) – yet we always reach a joint agreement by the end and keep pushing forward.
Is there a particular track or performance that you consider a personal milestone, even if it wasn’t your biggest hit or crowd?
Playing Tomorrowland Winter this year was a monumental moment for us both. It’s a festival that every electronic dance music artist wants to be involved in, and although it was not our biggest crowd, it felt like our most significant live performance.
What’s one thing you hope fans take away from your music that goes beyond just “a good dance track”?
We love hearing about how our music is associated with moments in people’s lives. If we can soundtrack memorable experiences to our audience, it gives us huge gratification.
Where do you see Switch Disco in the next two or three years? Do you aspire for more live shows, chart toppers or something completely different?
We see ourselves playing bigger stages, a more extensive music release catalogue, replicating chart success in the UK and globally, our own label and branded event, collaborating with many more artists in the dance music scene as well as continuing to grow our online audience!
