Diplo & Gucci Mane Announce New Album

MC born Radric Davis, better known as Gucci Mane, has been off the radar for a couple years, but Diplo is about to change that. The two revealed yesterday that a collaborative project is in the works, and the internet has already erupted with both support and ridicule.

Gucci announced his excitement via Twitter, followed by confirmation from Diplo who was quick to deny the album being “EDM.”

NEW EDM ALBUM WITH @diplo ON THE WAY !!!!!

Hahaha it ain’t EDM but we working !!! #guwap https://t.co/VRhL3vrQ5q — somebody to lean on (@diplo) April 18, 2015

It makes sense that Diplo would seek out Gucci for a collaborative project. In 2010, Diplo released a collection of remixes entitled Diplo Presents: Free Gucci (Best Of The Cold War Mixtapes). The mixtape was met with mixed feelings of praise and disappointment, but proves the producer’s admiration for Gucci Mane’s lyrical talent. Now, with the chance to create an entire album from scratch, who knows what these two minds will yield. If the result is anything like Skrillex and Fatman Scoop’s “Recess,” this could be another game changer.
