Major Lazer has just put out a brand new track with fellow Mad Decent group Bad Royale, coming as a highly memorable and experimental hybrid heater. The most iconic portion of “My Number” comes as the start, where the groups sampled Toots And The Maytals’ “54-46 That’s My Number.” With a soft reggae backbone and a title for the new track, it’s clear that a hefty amount of inspiration came from this 1968 throwback.

The song begins with an extended cut of the Toots And The Maytals’ original, climbing eventually into a synth-saturated drop with fierce percussion hits and scattered vocal chops. The rhythm evolves from trap to moombahton to jersey club and more throughout the length of the song, making the complete listening experience a fully engaging one.
