EDIT: This list pertains to Amazon Music Unlimited in the UK — we will follow up with the the service’s U.S. results for 2017.
As 2017 comes to a close, every music streaming site, chart, publication, etc. has its own top artists and songs of the year — and Amazon Music is no different.
The online commerce giant has managed to stay relevant even with companies with the sole purpose of providing music streaming, like Spotify and Apple Music. This year is a big one, as Amazon’s premium subscription service marks its first anniversary.
One of the top songs of the year no matter who you ask, “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, unsurprisingly falls at #4 for Amazon Music Unlimited’s top streamed songs. Ed Sheeran snags #2 and #3 with “Shape of You” and “Galway Girl,” and “Despacito” is awarded with the top honor thanks to the bilingual collab between Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi and Justin Bieber.
Pop sensation Ed Sheeran takes the top honor as far as most streamed artist on Amazon Music Unlimited. Artists like Coldplay, Eminem, Drake, Taylor Swift, Adele, Bruno Mars, Linkin Park, Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry and more all fall within the top 20. Sadly, no electronic music artists appear on Amazon’s list this time around.
While millennials may frequent trendy services like Spotify and Apple Music, it seems as though Amazon Music caters to an older audience. The Beatles being at #2 and Elvis Presley coming in hot as the #3 most streamed artist for the year is a dead giveaway.
