Weed Is Officially Legal In Michigan As Of Today

Weed is now legal in the great state of Michigan.

As of Thursday, Michigan is the 10th state in the country to put legalized recreational marijuana into motion. Also, it’s the first state in the Midwest.

People ages 21 and up can enjoy weed, as long as they do so in private residential homes. According to state law, Michiganders can keep up to 10 ounces of marijuana at home and carry up to 2.5 ounces. People may also grow up to 12 plans for personal use.

There’s a catch — it’s still not legal to sell. Michigan still has a lot to figure out in terms of its newfound commercial marijuana industry, which will be hashed out in 2019.

Brad Forrester of the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) speaks with Rolling Stone on the impact of legalization.

“A key component of legalization is stopping the arrests,” he says. “One of the best and most important aspects of our law is that it really makes it very difficult for some average person who’s either using or growing a little bit of marijuana for themselves to get a criminal charge.”

Happy 4/20… er, 12/6.
