The Berlin electronic act twocolors recently came to our attention with the awesome piece with The Dead Daisies titled ‘Make It Louder.’ Their sparky vibe is set to continue growing a strong reputation, and they have more new music primed for release.
We spoke to twocolors to hear a little more from them on it and their inspiration.
Great to chat, guys! How would you best introduce yourselves?
A pleasure to meet you, too. We are Pierro & Emil from twocolors, an electronic act from Berlin.
What is the twocolors sound all about? When did you start making music together?
Maybe it’s all about easy and heart-warming warm guitar sounds, combined with influences from multiple genres. We’re always trying to find a sweet spot that isn’t too much dance/electronic but not too much pop either!
We’ve been making music together since the end of 2015. Even if it sounds like a cliché, we are always trying to produce by the rule – less is more and make it as easy as it could be.
What do you love most about doing this as a job?
To meet so many great souls, singers, songwriters, other musicians is a huge opportunity. And to be your own boss and sitting hours and hours of creating something new – that idealistic is then heard by different people from around the globe, which is pretty amazing.
Where did your musical love story start for you? Do you remember any key early influences?
Emil: My mum always listened loud to pop music, trying to sing the lyrics in even if she doesn’t speak english. I think that’s the reason why I have a special connection to pop in general.
Pierro: My father always played guitar when I was a kid and I always loved listening to it. And later at the age of 14 year I started taking piano lessons.
Who or what are you currently really into, music-wise?
Always into the producer and musician/acts who are redefining their sound but you can always hear their own style. For example Calvin Harris, but also the amazing talented Finneas O’Connell and Mark Ronson. In modern times it isn’t so usual to see acts that also are producing their own music, so we really appreciate when they do so.
You reworked The Dead Daisies for your new single. Were you already familiar with their stuff?
To be honest not completely, we knew where their sound came from and we recently saw ‘The Dirt‘ on Netflix 🙂 these guys are legends in their rock industry. They rock and maybe there is another rework from us coming soon…
Who else would you love to remix or collaborate with?
There are so many because we like so many different genres and vocalists. But we’ve got a fable for the 70s and the disco era – so something from Chic to Stevie Wonder. But also artists like Duffy or Alizée, that would be amazing.
What do you have coming up next?
twocolors has two parts electronic and pop-dance. We will release an EP with 8 songs that are more deep and electronic and are remixed versions of our already released songs. So the deeper part of our musical soul. But there are also new remixes and other singles planned.
Is there anything else we should know about twocolors?
With twocolors we are trying to build a bridge between electronic dance and pop music. And as we are musicians who write, play and produce our own music, we want and will bring that to our live and DJ sets. It’s time to start spreading this everywhere we can!
