EDM covers have been all the rage lately. From Steve Aoki to R3HAB to Nora En Pure, producers have been reaching back and paying homage to some of their favorite songs. Now you can count Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in that group as they team up with frequent collaborator Bassjackers for “Happy Together.”
While most artists would have reached back to the 80s or 90s for a tasty cover, DVLM went way back to cover the Turtles’ 1967 hit. While you probably had no idea who did the song (that could legitimately be a question on Jeopardy), you’re definitely familiar with the song, regardless of age. This is a ubiquitous song in pop culture having been featured in countless movies and TV commercials. Who knew it could make for such a bouncy festival anthem.
The instantly recognizable vocals open with a military drumbeat in the background. After some light instrumentation, the vocal melody becomes the synths that make up the drop. With a little bit of a psy-trance bassline in the background, this is surely a song that would have gone off in DVLM’s Tomorrowland set.
