Nicky Romero is back with the latest from his darker alter-ego Monocule, “You Don’t Know.” This latest track is the Monocule project distilled to its best parts. Dark, progressive synths, a rumbling bassline, and the perfect groove that finds the sweet spot between the dancefloor and the underground. Unleashed last year, to much fanfare, Nick’s fans will be happy to know that there’s plenty of more Monocule releases slated to come.
The track opens with some synth notes before going into the deep and propulsive beat that carries the track. A four-four beat kicks in as the synths warble in the background. Finally a distorted vocal comes in simply repeating “You Don’t Know.” The synth melody comes in during the drop and takes us on a journey. It’s dark and brooding, but danceable and energetic at the same time. There’s an epic bridge where the vocals carry the track in between major musical stanzas. Finally, the synths buildup in a blissful and magnificent final drop.
