Swedish DJ and producer Alesso paid an emotional tribute to the late One Direction superstar Liam Payne. Shared in a video on his social media earlier this week, Alesso is seen honoring the memory of Liam at a sold-out circuitGrounds performance to thousands of fans.
Alesso and Liam collaborated on a single titled ‘Midnight’ which was released in 2020, and the pair quickly became really good friends while working on the track.
In the video, Alesso took to the mic and shared; “A couple of weeks ago a very talented musician and human being and friend of mine passed away.” He goes on to ask the audience to light up their phone’s torches, as he honours the memory of Liam. The screens behind him lit up with images of Liam, while Alesso continued; “we did a song together couple of years ago, his name is Liam Payne, and I would like to play it tonight for you guys to honour him.” 
Liam became a household name in the 2010s after his participation in The X Factor, and his meteoric rise to fame with One Direction. The artist passed away after falling from a third floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aries, Argentina in October.
