Skrillex has issued an apology after being accused of using someone’s photograph without their permission. The image was used as the artwork for his latest single ‘hit me where it hurts x’ with Dylan Brady and a sampled vocal from Caroline Polachek.
On 16 November X user @mourningdove77 pointed out the stark similarities between the single’s artwork and a photo they took in November 2024. On the X they said; “This is a photo I took last year if anybody cares cause what the fuck hahahahahaha”.
Skrillex responded saying; “@mourningdove77 We had selected this artwork based on what my team had shared and was completley unware that this photo was taken by you. Though this single cover was outsourced, I take 100% accountability. I would love to contact you and do anything in my power to make amends and make this right. My absolute deepest apologies and regrets that this happened.”
Designer Mira Joyce who shared the artwork on X on 15 November said; “really sorry for this, genuine mistake but i want to make this right. dmed you”
The situation is also really ironic as @mourningdove77 shared that they’re struggling financially, and buying groceries is incredibly difficult right now.
