His take on the Kim Carnes original is sublime to say the very least. His tender, soothing yet potent vocals carefully narrate the beautiful lyrics with intention and the utmost care. The production is minimal, and almost falls away as his voice glides effortlessly in tandem with it, hypnotising the listener with Elderbrook’s heart-centred approach.
Elderbrook has had a phenomenal career so far, and has worked with the likes of Black Coffee, Vintage Culture and Diplo, while he’s toured with RÜFÜS DU SOL and ODESZA. This release just further emphasises his incredible influence and versatility in the music industry today.
Sharing more on the single, Elderbrook said; “I’ve been doing these Hotel Room Sessions for years now. Whenever I’m traveling for shows, I end up with so much extra time in hotel rooms, so I thought I’d find something productive to do. The Bette Davis Eyes cover stood out to me, and people really connected with it, which brings us here. This is the first Hotel Room Session that I have released outside of YouTube.”
