What started out as a simple scroll through TikTok has resulted in a massive cross-continental hit!
Out today, via Crash Your Sound, ‘Girl in Ibiza’ sees Hamburg-based duo WITH U team up with Ugandan singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Baraka, to create a scintillating, evocative single.
The origins of how the track came about is unique to say the least. WITH U came across a clip of Joshua Baraka humming a catchy tune on TikTok while he was in the studio, and it instantly caught their attention. They then decided to create their own version of the track, posted their version as a reaction to Joshua’s initial video which Joshua loved and the rest is history. Sharing more on the origins of single WITH U said; “We were just scrolling through TikTok one evening when we stumbled upon this clip of Joshua in the studio, vibing with some producers and singing this insanely catchy melody. It instantly caught us – the vibe, the emotion, everything. We opened our DAW right away, built a remake around it, and posted it back as a reaction. Joshua saw it, loved it, and that’s how the collaboration was born. What started as a random scroll turned into ‘Girl in Ibiza.” 
Now, the track is an official release, and showcases the power of cross-cultural collaboration. The track is soulful and carries an unmistakable warmth throughout. It holds a mesmerizing groove, which elevates Joshua’s tender and silken vocals in a beautiful manner. The track feels like the perfect Summer soundtrack as it carries an air of freedom, presence and euphoria throughout. ‘Girl in Ibiza’ features a striking melody, along with an invigorating rhythm and groove that’s perfect for a sunset set on the beach.
Joshua Baraka revealed that WITH U’s version felt fresh; “That video was just me in the studio, having fun with an idea I’d been humming all day. I didn’t expect much – but then I saw how WITH U used my vocals on TikTok I was blown away by what they did with it. It felt fresh, it felt right. We connected instantly and decided to make it official. ‘Girl in Ibiza’ really came from that moment of creative spontaneity – nothing forced, just pure vibe.”
