Virtual icons Gorillaz are set to play their very first shows in India early next year as part of The Mountain World Tour. The Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett project has confirmed two special headline dates: January 23, 2027 at District Arena at Terraform in Bengaluru, and January 27, 2027 at Jio World Garden in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
For those unfamiliar with the band, Gorillaz is a virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, featuring four 2-D animated characters, Murdoc Niccals (bass), Noodle (guitar), and Russel Hobbs (drums). The actual music is driven by Albarn as the main songwriter and vocalist, along with visual artist Hewlett and co-producer Remi Kabaka Jr.
The announcement carries extra meaning because large parts of their latest album The Mountain were recorded during time spent in India, including stops in Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan, and Varanasi. The record features Hindi among its languages and input from Indian musicians, with some of those collaborators expected to appear live. Albarn said it has long been a dream to bring the full technicolour Gorillaz experience to the country. Hewlett added that touring India has always been a goal for the band. “It has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. It’s just the beginning and I truly look forward to the experience.” 
Pre-sale for the India shows starts April 13, 2026, with general tickets going on sale April 18 at 2pm IST. Full tour details are available on the official Gorillaz website. These performances will mark the first time Indian fans get to experience the band’s genre-blending live show with its signature visuals and live band in person.
