5 Minutes With Mike Williams: Discussing ‘Multiply’, Storylines & What’s Next

Dutch DJ and producer Mike Williams continues to push the boundaries of melodic dance music with his latest single, ‘Multiply’, a vibrant collaboration with Brazilian producer Bruno Martini and acclaimed singer-songwriter Stephen Puth. Blending infectious hooks, uplifting melodies, and the high-energy production that has become synonymous with his sound, the track marks another exciting chapter in Mike’s ever-evolving career.

With another release arriving later this month via his own label, Storylines, there’s plenty more on the horizon. In this edition of 5 Minutes With, we caught up with Mike Williams to discuss the making of ‘Multiply’, the creative freedom that comes with releasing music through Storylines, and what fans can expect from the months ahead.

Congratulations on the release of ‘Multiply’! What first drew you to this collaboration with Bruno Martini and Stephen Puth, and how did the track come together?

I’ve known Bruno for quite a while and we’ve always talked about doing something together. When this idea came up, it immediately felt like it had the right energy. Stephen brought an amazing vocal performance that really elevated the record. We went back and forth on the production until everything clicked. It was one of those collaborations where everyone added something unique, and the final result feels like a real blend of our styles.

‘Multiply’ has such an infectious energy while still feeling melodic and uplifting. What was the biggest creative challenge in striking that balance?

The biggest challenge was making sure the track felt powerful without losing its emotional side. I always want people to feel something when they hear my music, but at the same time I want it to work in a festival setting. Finding that balance between a catchy vocal, emotional chords and a drop that really hits took quite a few iterations, but that’s usually where the magic happens.

You’ve teased that another release is arriving at the end of the month through your own label, Storylines. Without giving too much away, what can fans expect from this next chapter?

It’s a bit darker and more club-focused. I’ve been playing it in my sets for a while now under the name, “The System”, and the response has been incredible. It’s one of those tracks that completely changes the energy in the room. Releasing it on Storylines feels right because it’s exactly the type of music I want the label to represent.

Releasing music through your own label must offer a different level of creative freedom. How has Storylines influenced the way you approach new music?

It’s been really refreshing. Storylines allows me to release music because I genuinely believe in it, not because it fits a certain trend or expectation. That freedom has made me more confident in following my instincts creatively. It also gives me the opportunity to build a world around the music instead of just releasing singles one after another.

Whether it’s in the studio or on stage, what’s inspiring you the most creatively at this point in your career?

Playing new music live is still one of the biggest sources of inspiration. Seeing how people react instantly tells you so much. Outside of that, I’m always inspired by trying new production techniques and experimenting with sounds that feel fresh while staying true to my identity. I think the goal is always to keep evolving without losing what makes your music recognizable.

If ‘Multiply’ was the opening scene of a film, what would the audience see?

It would start with people from completely different places and backgrounds slowly coming together, almost as if they’re all being pulled toward the same moment. The energy keeps building until everything explodes into one massive celebration. That’s really what the song is about for me: multiplying energy by sharing it with other people.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited for fans to experience over the rest of 2026?

There’s a lot of new music coming that explores different sides of my sound. “The System” is just the beginning. I’m also excited to keep building Storylines and bring those records to festivals around the world. I think the rest of 2026 is really about creating memorable moments, both through the music itself and the experiences around it. Hopefully fans will feel that every step of the way.
