Matisse & Sadko have always been somewhat of an enigma in the realm of EDM. They are not a duo that continuously release tracks like clockwork; but when they do, it always seems to be the talk of of town before they disappear back into obscurity. Their collaborations have always been massively successful, from their team up with Arty with Trio to their collaboration with Steve Angello with SLVR. Their uncanny knack for creating a specific Northern European sound (think The Alps) to their tracks has been a proven formula for amazing moments in many sets. After their heavy success on their collaboration with heavy brawlers Swanky Tunes and Hard Rock Sofa with Chemistry, they have finally set forth to release a true Original, which hasn’t occurred since their single Amulet last year. Stars has already been supported by the likes of Sander van Doorn, Arty, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and more. Their new single showcases the best qualities in the Russian brothers, as it is a euphoric, fun tune that is sure to become a hit staple in many festivals this year.

Starting with a breakdown in which the vocals repeat the hopeful message, ‘reach for the stars‘, a playful ostinato clashes with a interesting tremolo amidst rising synth pads. Euphoric piano lines receive prominence as the chords reach into unknown territory with some truly outstanding chord work. The build up pulls in smashing drums, rising synths and a flippant synth as the music keeps cutting in half (with rising white noise and sound altering). Finally, the drop is euphoric, simple and care free, as its melody focuses not only on its unique musical structure, but also on obtaining the maximum amount of energy and danceability (yes, I just created that word), upon the floor. A nice touch is the remaining string synth providing awesome moment in chord assignments and just the unusual, yet very catchy method of producing this track. Matisse & Sadko‘s new single, Stars, is out now on Doorn Records on Beatport, so head on over to pick up this great single today.

All I could take from this is how the Alps are northern European?
