Youredm Premiere: City 17 – Toxin + Interview

For about three years Felipe Pereira & Justin Anderson the two young artists behind City 17, have been hard at work making a name for themselves within the EDM community. Their creative, highly danceable, multigenre take on EDM makes for diverse and entertaining tracks that are right at home on the mainstage. Last year, they won the EDC Discovery Project, as well as the Lights All Night Discovery Project, and somehow had the time to crank out a killer Ep on SectionZ Records that has been turning more than a few heads since it’s release. Now, this coming Monday they are looking to take yet another step forward in their artistic journey with their latest Ep entitled, Cast Away. We here at Youredm were lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview these two budding artists as well as premiere one of the tracks off this coming Ep entitled, Toxic. Check it out below, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for more City 17!

How did you two get started?

We met about three years ago in art school, put out a Harry Potter Remix and took a break to refine our image before signing to SectionZ Records for our Ignite It Ep, and the rest is history.

Is there any genre you haven’t tried yet that you would really like to have a crack at?

Definitely Glitch Hop, but we also want to make new genres ourselves. We really like the idea of thinking outside the box with what you can do with EDM.

What do you guys use to Perform?

We use an Apc40 and an S4 with two computers so we can be more creative with our live looping, sound effects & transitions. These past few shows however, we’ve just been using the APC and that’s been working really well for us.

What’s the best part about being artists in the scene today?

Honestly just seeing all of our studio work pay off. We played lights all night in Dallas and that was arguably one of our best shows, everyone was really feeling it. Being on stage and watching everyone vibe to something we’ve worked so hard on is one of the best feelings in the world of us.

Is there anything you would like to see more of from aspiring artists as they try to make a name for themselves in the scene today?

More individual self expression for sure. Genres shouldn’t define you as an artist, follow your heart and make what you want to make!

What’s next for you guys?

Well besides this next Ep, we are planning a tour very soon and we are also working on another Ep that we personally think is our best work yet, and we can’t wait to share it with you guys.
