When we heard that Avicii would be producing a track on Coldplay’s newest album Ghost Stories, I think we were all a little perplexed. But now, thanks to this great video with lead singer Chris Martin and Rolling Stone, we have a greater story behind the track.
The break up of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow influenced many of the songs on the album and set the tone for the very somber and melancholy feeling, but Martin knew that people could only take so much of that.
“I know that in a concert if we’re playing this whole album, there will be a point where you’re like, “Okay, I’ve got this out of my system. Now let’s go dancing.”
In creating the track, they called upon Avicii to instill a huge dose of EDM-spirit into the production. Avicii made his own version, as did Coldplay, and they came together afterward to combine the two.
“We spent weeks weaving it all together. It was essentially playing Tetris for fucking hours. That’s why it took so long.”
