Following the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Katy Perry has faded out of the limelight rather quickly. Why is that? Everyone’s asking, “Who’s Missy Elliott? And why were those people cheering so loudly?”
Missy’s last album was back in 2005 (though she has released singles since) and in this era of quickly changing media-frenzied teens and millenials, without any new content, she was rather unjustly forgotten. However, the epic Halftime performance which featured the hits “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control,” effectively jump-started her career back up again. I can’t say I was ever a fan of Missy, personally, but I absolutely knew about her and I absolutely heard these songs as a kid growing up.
Now that she’s back in the spotlight, as of yesterday, “Work It” (#4), “Get Your Freak On” (#5) and “Lose Control” (#7) — the three songs she performed — all sit in the top 10 on the iTunes Singles Chart. It’s not uncommon for Halftime supporters to get a large bump in publicity, but for an icon like Missy, it doesn’t end there.
MissInfo has an exclusive source that an unreleased remix of Jack Ü’s “Take Ü There” will feature Missy’s vocals on two verses. From general obscurity to 3 top 10’s to the world of EDM, this is looking to be Missy Elliott’s month. We’ll be sure to report on that again once it’s released.
