Dance music superstar, David Guetta, has achieved yet another enormous feat in his massive career. Not only has Guetta joined the ranks of Eminem and Ed Sheeran with over two billion plays on Spotify, but he’s also the first EDM and French artist to do so.
Guetta also earned the title of the most followed artist in all of Spotify, with 6.8 million followers and 15 million plays per month.
The director of Spotify’s label relations shared,
“David Guetta is obviously one of the most popular artists on Spotify globally, so him smashing the two billion plays milestone should come as no surprise. But it is worth also noting that he achieved this landmark thanks to his huge fan base of over 15 million fans on Spotify who listen to his music every month, and who together helped him hit this landmark in record time.”
Bart Cools, EVP Global Marketing and A&R of dance music for Warner Music Group also touched on the subject:
“He is the first DJ to reach this milestone which is an amazing achievement, but looking at how dance is exploding at the moment as a genre, I am sure he will be followed by others very soon.”
One of David Guetta’s singles, “Hey Mama” featuring Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha, and Afrojack, has over 95 million global streams thus far, sitting at number six on the Global Spotify charts. The track is part of Guetta’s sixth and most recent album Listen which has had incredible success since its release last November. Listen to David Guetta on Spotify below:
