After staking their claim with the reggaeton influenced “Original Don,” The Partysquad has since started their own label, Rebel Yard, as a safe haven for experimentation. They’ve capitalized on the raw vibes of the Caribbean, and aptly titled their first installment of The Highest Grade to pay homage to where it all started.
Bangin’ out from the start with the title track, it’s clear that the entire release is about hopping off your ass and dancing. A host of collaborators are featured throughout the release, including Mr. Vegas, Fellow, DJ Punish, La Rouge, and more, hugging tight to the EP’s theme of grungy synths with a jiving moombah rhythm. Still, every track offers an exciting venture into something new, from the mariachi horns of “ChanChan,” to the bass-heavy “A Good Thing.” Rebel Yard has churned out a thoroughly enjoyable Partysquad EP that beautifully encapsulates a late night out on the island.
