The Chainsmokers’ Hit Single Sounds A Bit Like Fetty Wap

Photo by Brian Bowen Smith for Billboard

The Chainsmokers’ and Halsey are coming under fire for their work on “Closer.” Some critics are claiming that the rhythm of the hit single is remarkably similar to “679” by Fetty Wap.

Alex and Drew of The Chainsmokers have claimed “Closer” was inspired by Blink 182’s “I Miss You,” and while there are certain similarities between the two, none are more apparent than the lyrical gait of Fetty Wap’s tune. While The Chainsmokers opted for the key of A-flat Major and Fetty Wap went for D major, there’s no denying the resemblance. Is it just a coincidence? That’s up to you.
