It has now been fifty weeks since Marshmello and Bastille hit the top of the Dance/Electronic Music chart on Billboard and they show no signs of slowing down!
While “shows no signs of slowing down” is a bit of a lazy epithet in musical journalistic writing, it bears considerable truth in this case. “Happier” now holds a commanding record at the top of the chart after it was held by Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey’s “The Middle” (33 weeks at No. 1 in 2018) in May.
It gets even more astounding – “Happier” is now only the fifth song in the history of the Billboard genre songs charts to reach 50 weeks at top. The others being —
61 weeks, “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail),” Hillsong UNITED, 2013-16, Hot Christian Songs
58 weeks, “You Say,” Lauren Daigle, 2018-19, Hot Christian Songs
56 weeks, “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, 2017-18, Hot Latin Songs
50 weeks, “Happier,” Marshmello & Bastille, 2018-19, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs
50 weeks, “Meant to Be,” Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line, 2017-18, Hot Country Songs
“Happier” is also approaching one billion plays on Spotify, which will make it the producer’s first to pass that mark.
