If I told you that there was a German, techno marching band, you might think that I was joking, that it was an SNL skit, however, that’s not true. MEUTE, an 11-piece outfit out of Hamburg, is ready to take over the US with a huge 20-date tour that includes an appearance at Coachella. The concept alone makes them noteworthy, but one view of their many performances on YouTube reveals something larger. It shows that simple dance music concepts and sensibilities can easily transition to traditional acoustic instruments.
Enter their latest single, “Peace.” With this enthralling track, the marching band shows how dance music tropes can work effectively in the space of orchestral music. Which, if you’ve been a fan of EDM and dance music, you knew all along that the music was super melodic. MEUTE just confirms how truly musical EDM can be. If you have horns and brass playing the melody, the musicality is undeniable. “Peace plays like a bit of underground house, with a droning horn playing along the immaculate percussion.
