Emerging producer SHDWCSTRS unveiled his latest project ALT/GEN EP on 16 January.
The US-based producer is known for his intricate and deft sound design which merges EDM with elements of hip hop in a cohesive, boundary-smashing manner. ALT/GEN is a great showcase of SHDWCSTRS’ signature sound, which blends underground grit with dense, emotionally-resonant and cinematic textures.
The EP spans 6 tracks, all of which hold their own while working in tandem with one another to create a cohesive project. Within each track, the emotions are visceral, pulling the listener into SHDWCSTRS’ distinct sonic universe. Each track has been built with intention, and features an air of introspection and slivers of melancholy. From the futuristic soundscapes of the opening track ‘Swervin’, to the brooding atmosphere of ‘Anamnesis Euphoria’, and finally the lo-fi and jazz infused closing track ‘Twice Over’, the EP zooms in on SHDWCSTRS’ versatility in a remarkable manner. 
Sharing more on his productions, SHDWCSTR said; “I make music for people who’ve been through it—the ones still figuring it out, still trying to find their balance. In that process, I’m chasing a feeling. If the music doesn’t make you feel something, it’s just noise. SHDWCSTRS is about turning the chaos into rhythm and making the darkness sound alive.”
ALT/GEN is another victorious chapter in SHDWCSTR’s career, while it also acts as a crucial building block in the formation of his unique sonic universe.
